The cork industry in Portugal has a long history, dating back to the 18th century. The cork oak forests are primarily located in the Alentejo region, and it’s one of the most important economic activities in this region.

Évora historical center

From the Roman Temple, passing by the Cathedral (Sé), Giraldo Square and ending at S. Francisco church we will walk through this UNESCO World heritage site where tradition, history and landmarks merge together.

Chapel of Bones

The chapel is decorated with the bones and skulls of over 5,000 people, which were exhumed from cemeteries in the city in the 17th century. The bones were used to decorate the walls and pillars of the chapel as a reminder of the fragility of human life.

Monsaraz is a small medieval village known for its well-preserved castle, which dates back to the 13th century, and for its stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The village is situated on top of a hill overlooking the Alqueva Dam and the Guadiana River.
